The Fronius Ignis 150 single-phase inverter welder is a new generation device with a rate of 150 A for MMA and TIG welding. The  feature range is enhanced for optimum welding results. The modern PFC ( Power Factor Correction) technology, responsible for power factor control, ensures optimum power consumption, what means savings and reduced interference to the power grid. Additionally, very long leads can be used (up to 100 m) without voltage fluctuations.

The Ignis 150 inverter enables manual welding with covered electrodes (STICK) of an diameter not exceeding 4.0 mm. The welder has the additional mode (CEL) designed for work with cellulose electrodes. It provides a stable arc and it is particularly useful for welding in difficult  positions e.g. from the top downwards not causing welding cinders. Digital controller adjusts welding source characteristic to the welding electrode what guarantees small amount of weld spatter and optimum electrode ignition at low short-circuit current. Thanks to high voltage reserves, high stability of welding arc is guaranteed. Regardless of the welding method, the results are always excellent.

Ignis 150 has a wide range of features:

Hot-Start function helps with electrode ignition, raising the welding current for 0.1 to 1.5 seconds. It guarantees better melting of the base material during the initial phase, and thus, the number of cold spots is reduced. It also prevents welding slag inclusion and makes it split away the weld easily. The function is used with large diameter electrodes, such as 3.2 and 4.0 mm. The Soft-Start function on the other hand, guarantees that the welding current is lowered during the initial phase, thus ensuring excellent arc ability. SoftStart is designed for alkaline electrodes and high-alloyed electrodes of smaller diameters e.g for stainless steel. This function prevents electrode adherence and reduces pore formation. The SoftStart function is set up within the range of 30%-99% and the Hot-Start 101%-200%.

The product offers ANTI-STICK function, responsible for lowering the welding current in case of short-circuit of the electrode what causes the arch to extinguish after 1.5 seconds. This function facilitates detachment of the electrode from the welding material and protects the welding gun from potential damage.

The welder is equipped with Start ramp function thanks to which during the arc ignition the initial capacity is 5A, then 35 A and then it switches to Hot-Start or SoftStart, depending on the previous settings. The entire process is undetectable as it lasts for 100 milliseconds. The function prevents the the electrode adherence and makes the arch ignition smoother.

The Fronius Ignis 150 has the welding arc interruption function U CUT OFF”. It enables the user to determine athwart arc length the welding process is finished. With the welding arc extension, the welding current is increased. After reaching the set arc break voltage, it goes out.

The device enables the user to adjust the Arc-force dynamic function in order to obtain optimum welding results. The value decrease contributes to achieving a softer arc and a small penetration depth. On the other hand, the parameter increase results in a more concentrated arc with greater weld penetration. Arc- force dynamic helps to achieve a stable welding arc through momentous current increase in a short circuit situation or droplet transition moment. This action makes it possible to avoid solidifying of the weld pool and to prevent arc shortening. It eliminates the risk of consumable electrode immobilization.

The Fronius Ignis 150 is equipped with Pulse welding function in the range of 0.5 to 100 Hz. It is used for out-of-position welding e.g. eave joints or risers. It is also used to weld thin sheets. During Pulse welding, the heat is impulsively input into the weld, which is cooled between consecutive pulses. It prevents welding spatters and helps to achieve appropriate weld shape. During Pulse welding two kinds of current are produced: base current (I-G), responsible for welding arc support, melting the wire and the edges of elements being fused and pulse current (I-P) transporting the molten metal to the weld pool without spatters or short circuits.

The Ignis 150 welder also enables the user to weld with TIG LIFT method ( friction ignition) with a conventional welding gun with valve in the handle. To start the process select TIG welding in the menu, adjust  the welding current and then place the gas nozzle down on the ignition location. What is essential, the gap between the tungsten electrode and the workpiece should be approximately 2-3 mm (Fig.1). Next, actuate the gas cut-off valve what makes shielding gas flow. The next step is to gradually tilt the welding torch up until the tungsten electrode  touches the workpiece (Fig.2). After raising the welding torch and rotating it to its normal position, the arc ignites (Fig.3).The whole process is illustrated in the following graphic:

TIG COMFORT STOP function provides the possibility to end the welding process smoothly. It prevents burnouts and  discolorations in the material. During welding, raise the welding torch (Fig.2) - the arc length will increase. Next, lower the welding torch (Fig.3) - the arc length will decrease. Continual current decrease  (DOWN SLOPE) influences the slow arc extinction. After welding you should wait for the gas post-flow time and lift the welding torch  away from the workpiece. It is essential that the gas -post flow must be carried out manually, by turning off the valve in the handle.  The principle of operation and the use of TIG Comfort Stop is shown in the picture below.
