Flux-cored wires (FCAW)
Flux-cored wires are used in 80% positional welding and 20% in the down position, valued for their high efficiency in positional welding, smooth joint face, proper bead profile, as well as good mechanical properties.
Core wires - application
Rutile cored wires intended mainly for positional welding, slag is very easy to remove. The rapid solidification of the slag allows welding in all positions with high current, resulting in high production efficiency. A wide range of applications allows for easy modification of parameters. Some flux-cored wires are intended for welding with very high current (diameters 1.6 or 2.4 mm), while maintaining important process parameters (in particular, removal of slag and fillet weld profiles). Welding with flux-cored wires does not require special equipment and this is one of the many advantages of this filler metal. Powder-cored wire with a metallic core is characterised by no slag and very small spatters, which are very easy to remove.
Advantages of cored wire over solid wire:
1. welding speed – almost twice as fast
2. small amount of spatters, and the resulting ones are very easily removed
3. smooth joint face
4. higher weld bead properties
5. better remelting
6. using carbon dioxide, not a mixture as with solid wire.
